What do active bodies and minds need more than anything? Room to grow!
This is the exact challenge posed with this large-scale remodel in Arden Hills. For two professional academics and their growing family, cramped confines and outdated interiors threatened to stunt this growth. And if a family-owned business such as Covert Construction knows anything, it’s how to create more space.
The solution? A strategic reimagining involving doing away with underutilized deck, yard, and living space to make room for massive expansions from the (under)ground up. The project began when the existing deck, three-season porch, and garage shed were demolished before the expanded foundation was dug and walled-off. What followed was the opening of exterior walls from basement to top-floor as the layout materialized.
The final product features a main floor with an open-concept kitchen and family living space with character grade hickory flooring. The living space was further consolidated by moving all bedrooms to the top-floor with a Jack and Jill bathroom connecting the two children’s bedrooms, and an expanded laundry room designed for convenience due to its new proximity to all bedrooms. Finally, the fully finished basement comes complete with a large family and activity room, an additional guest bedroom, and a three-quarter bath made convenient for lower-level guests.
Ultimately, this growing family is loving their new space, and look forward to a world of possibilities it opens for them!
